My name is Shane Seminole Mielke. I am currently a Designer and Creative Director at 2Advanced Studios. I am a Cyberdyne Systems T-1000 Model 101 with experience in all aspects of web development but specializing in Design, Development, Motion and Photography. I've been very fortunate to have designed, developed or animated 6 Adobe sites of the Day, 26 FWA Sites of the Day, and 2 FWA Sites of the Month.  I also serve as a judge for Flash in the Can Awards, Digital Artist Awards, .net Awards, and the prestigious FWA Site of the Year.  

My credits include numerous books such as FWA’s “Guidelines for Online Success”, Taschen’s “1000 Favorite Websites”, two books from Taschen’s Icon series “Web Design: Studios” & “Web Design: Portfolios” and “New Masters of Flash: Volume 3” that I co-authored in 2004. I'm also very lucky to have achieved interviews/features in iconic industry magazines such as Computer Arts, Computer Arts Projects, STEP Inside Design, How, Web Designer, Advanced Photoshop and .net magazine.

My work spans many diverse brands such as Activision, Adobe, Chevy, Dakine, Electronic Arts, Ford Motor Company, Fox Sports, Lexus, Lucas Arts, Mattel, Mazda USA, Motorola, MSN, Namco, Nintendo, O'Neill, Sony Picture Studios, Taylormade Golf, T-Mobile, Toyota, and Warner Brothers to name a few.  My projects reflect my passion for this industry, and my work is infused with life and emotion.  When not reclined in front of the computer and getting minimal hours of sleep, I enjoy spending time with my wife Jolene and daughters Tristen and Taylor, working out, coaching High School football, and engaging in the relentless pursuit of photography.

FAMILY
My wife Jolene was a scholarship gymnast at Boise State University. After graduating college she put all of her hard work to good use by performing in Cirque du Soleil shows and competing in fitness competitions. She has also coached gymnastics on the collegiate level and is currently a gymnastics judge here in Southern California. She recently became a Registered Nurse. We met at one of my bodybuilding competitions and I cannot imagine my life if she had not found me thru a mutual friend of ours. Our daughter Tristen Holly Mielke was born in May 2005. My second daughter Taylor Shea Mielke was born in March 2008. They have brought more joy and happiness into both of our lives than we could have ever imagined possible.

FOOTBALL
I was fortunate enough to play football on the collegiate level at the University of California at Davis which now competes at the Division IAA level. We beat Stanford in 2005 and hold the current NCAA record of 38 consecutive winning seasons. After college I returned home and started coaching High School football. I've been coaching the Varsity & JV Offensive Line at my Alma Mater for over 15 years now. We've been ranked in the top 20 nationally several times, even winning state in 1996. I've been fortunate to coach some amazing athletes and individuals over the years. Some of the more notable are Carson Palmer (2002 Heisman Trophy Winner), Kris Farris (1998 Outland Trophy Winner), Brian Finneran (Walter Peyton award winner). It's my personal opinion that everyone should find some way of contributing to their local communities and especially the growth of young adults. In my free time I also try and donate my time to organizations like the Special Olympics of Southern California.

BODYBUILDING
After my collegiate football career ended, it seemed ridiculous to throw all of the hard work I'd put into the weight room to waste. With a lot of hard work and research I started competing. Many people in the design community are surprised by the fact that I'm also a bodybuilder (although I haven't competed in almost 10 years). I definitely don't fit the average designer mold. I'm a lifetime natural bodybuilder which means that I've never taken any sort of performance enhancing drugs. I've never even had a drink of alcohol or any type of drugs in my life. People usually ask if this is religious (I'm Christian) but it isn't. My father is an Alcoholic (now with 29 years of sobriety under his belt), and I grew up going to AA meetings and never wanting to follow in my father's footsteps in that regard. I guess the easiest classification is that I'm straight edge but am not so hardcore that I abstain from caffeine or judge others who aren't like me.

PHOTOGRAPHY
I picked up photography a few years ago because I was jealous of the talents of several of my friends. For over a year now I've been posting my favorite pics from my travels on my Photoblog at www.terraspirit.com. It's a work in progress and I know that I have a lot to learn. Thankfully it's something I can do for the rest of my life.

MY NAME
Every so often someone asks me about my middle name (Shane Seminole Mielke) and if I'm Native American. Actually my wife is of Native American descent but I'm a full blooded German American. My first and middle names were given to me by my father for specific reasons. The Seminole Indians call themselves the "Unconquered People". This is because they were the only tribe who did not sign a peace treaty with the United States government. My father in all of his wisdom wanted to instill in me this "never surrender" mentality. Those who know me personally know that I never give up on anything until it's done right. My first name comes from the movie Shane and I definitely feel a personal connection with the characteristics of that main character.
